I was sent some of Palmolive's phosphate-free Eco+ Gel Dishwasher Detergent.
It's said to be more environmentally friendly than regular dishwasher detergent. It has a strong bleach-y smell, I kind of liked it, but it made me wonder how that could be more "eco-friendly", but. I'm not sure.
I like that it doesn't have phosphates, but I'm not sure that is the only requirement to make something "green".
I liked it. It did a fine job of cleaning dishes, comparable to my regular detergent, and, it was a little runnier than I thought it'd be, but that wasn't a show stopper. I didn't have to use more or less than I usually do to get the dishes clean.
Eco+ is available in three scents, Lemon Splash, Citrus Apple Splash and Lavender Splash.

I am all for eco friendliness, so I went and bought this Palmolive eco+ dishwasher. The performance is worse...It did not clean 80% of my dishes properly. I have a one year old DW that always cleans my dishes very well. I am very disappointed with this product.

I do not recommend this product. I got the lavender kind and it leaves white marks on dark dishes and does not clean everything. I love the fact that it eco friendly but I don't want to waste all the extra water by having to wash my dishes AFTER I already washed them. I'd rather get an eco friendly dish soap and do them myself.

I'm real surprised to see such negative reviews of Palmolive Eco+. I was NOT eager to try this when it first arrived at Wal-Mart, mostly because I am so conditioned by brand loyalty that I just assumed it would not work as good as my usual, which is either Cascade or Electrasol powder. What a surprise I received! I find it does a GREAT job of cleaning to a spotless and squeaky-clean shine, and passed my "torture test" of lasagna/spaghetti sauce/baked macaroni & cheese with flying colors. The only thing I don't like is the name of this site - there are PLENTY of men like me out there who work full-time plus run a household and are involved in lots of activities! Busypeople.net is more appropriate.

Hi,
I just reviewed Palmolive eco+ gel on my site -- http://1greenproduct.com/2008/07/kitchen-palmolive-eco-gel-dishwasher.html
Hope you and your readers find my perspective useful!

Did not like this product AT all....left a weird white film on all my dishes, meaning I had to rinse them in the sink, THEN rewash them in the dishwasher after going out and buying something different. I've never had a problem with any other soap but this one in my dishwasher. Will not be using again!

I agree with many of the other reviews. This stuff leaves a white residue and doesn't do a good job of cleaning the dishes. In addition, it is questionable in it's claim of being "eco-friendly" because it contains bleach.

I agree. We tried this stuff and it left a lot of white residue. I had to wash all my silverware and glasse in vinegar to get the residue off. Then rewash with a different detergent. I will never buy this stuff again.

I am all for eco-friendly household cleaners, however, this product is awful! Glasses are ruined and most of my dishes are left with all this clayish-like residue. I've bought $1 dish-washing detergents that has worked much better. Completely disappointing.

Help,
I had been using Walmart's no-name Value powder dishwasher detergent with great results, but thought I would go eco-friendly, and bought Palmolive eco-friendly gel. It is leaving awful white residue. What do I do to get the white residue off of my dishes? I tried scrubbing it off with a brush and the white film and streaks reappear. Are my new dishes ruined?

I too bought the new eco palmolive,it ruined most of my glassware, glass pan lids, pans, some flatware and large utensils.I have never seen a product do this and I do intend to contact the company.I've tried soaking them in vingegar,I've scrubbed them, hand washed them, bought my original cascade and rewashed them with an agent that was supposed to help,NOTHING HAS WORKED!I cannot believe they would not have checked out this product before they put it on the market.

I am another victim of Palmolive Eco+. All my dark plates, and the stainless interior of my one-year old dishwasher are coated with a horrible white powder. I went to the store and bought my old trusty Cascade today, and found out that the Palmolive had been pulled from the shelf. The Colgate website doesn't show a recall of the item, but obviously my grocery store has heard enough complaints.

Palmolive Eco was the worst product I've ever used for my dishes...it left a filmy white mess all over everything...I washed everything a second and third time and still no better! I ended up having to hand wash all of my dishes, silverware, plasticware...I then bought a product I had used in the past and haven't had a problem since. Don't buy Palmolive!!

This stuff simply does not work. It leaves some kind of white film on my glass plates, and does not clean anywhere near as well as others I have used (Electrasol and Cascade liquids, in the same dishwasher.)
I really wanted this stuff to work due to its lack of phosphates. I have gone through almost two large bottles, hoping that I would get acceptable results at some point. I am sorry to say that I am giving up on this product.

I live in Washington state, by law we have only the Plamolive eco to use for our dishwashers. So we have to put up with the film, or do our dishes by hand. What a life.

I live in an area with very hard water, and the Palmolive Eco is a disaster. If I use the dishwasher cycle with the heated dry, it leaves a white film that can only be removed by scrubbing hard with a scrubber sponge. If I turn the heated dry off, it still leaves a film and chalky white granules, but at least they rinse off with a regular sponge. But what's the point of a dishwasher if you have to scrub everything by hand anyway? I certainly don't want my family to be eating off dishes with soap residue all over them. By the way, my experience was that the film was worst on the silverware, but maybe it was just more noticeable, as my dishes are white.

I used this stuff for a couple of months (I too live in WA state, so no choice.) had no problems. Until, that is, some one turned on the heated dry cycle. Now i have the same white chalky risidue on everything. Can't get it off!!! even Steel wool is not taking it off. If you use it be very careful or avoid it if you can.

In an attempt to be a little greener, we purchased your Palmolive eco+ dishwasher detergent. This product put a dull, powdery, white film on every dish, glass, and utensil that was in our dishwasher. We thought our dishwasher was going out or something.
We re-washed them. Still this powdery white film. So we washed them again with your competitor's regular dishwasher detergent, but nothing would get rid of this film. We finally had to soak every dish, glass, and utensil overnight in vinegar water to get it off.
This is terrible and you must have received many complaints on this by now, so I'm worndering why it's still on the shelf. I've been meaning to go online and talk about this on consumer websites because in today's economy with budgets breaking, this was a complete waste of money and an even bigger waste of time trying to get this stuff off.
There should be a class-action suit for all the damage, time, and trouble!

Don't want to sound redundant, but this is the absolute worst product to use in your DW!! Like evryone else, we have a chalky white residue on all of our dishes. When we first started using Palmolive Eco+, it worked great, but all of a sudden it started to leave the residue. What's the point of using the DW if we have to re-wash by hand anyway?? DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT!!!!

This stuff is the worst. I just tried it and I have the same residue as the rest of you. I can't believe that with all the negitive comments out there that there are any legitmate positive ones. I just e-mailed the company. It will be very interesting to see what they do. I will do whatever I can legally do to get my dishes and cookware replaced. I hear that Twitter and you tube are great places to post complaints about companies. If I don't get a reasonable response from them within a day that is just where I'm going.

I googled Palmolive eco to see if there was some information regarding the white residue I found on my dishes after using it for the first time. Boy was I surprised--and disappointed--to see how many people have experienced the same problem. Some of my dishes are ruined! I don't want my family eating off of dishes with soap residue on them. Good for the environment, sure, but what about us humans?

Wow--I can't believe this. How long people have been complaining aobut this product and it's still on the market!! I just moved into a new house, used this stuff, and now have that white film all over the interior of the dishwasher (which is brand new) and everything that was in it. I have washed and washed these things to no avail--like a magic trick the white film comes back. I will be contacting the manufacturer, and I better get some satisfaction!!

I bought this product thinking it was about the same price as my usual product and I would do my own little part for the environment. All my dishes, pots, pans, silverware, and utensils are just destroyed. No one wants to eat or cook out of them and it seems that nothing will get this stuff off. I didn't realize it was the soap because I had used the lemon for a couple of weeks and it seemed fine, it was when I bought the Lavender one that the problem seemed to start occurring. I fully intend to contact the company for whatever good it will do.

Ok so yes it completely left white crap all over my dishes. It is the worst dishwasher soap I have ever purchased! I called the 1-800 number on the back and they recommended I wash my dishes in the dishwasher using 2 cups of white vinegar. She said I may need to repeat that process if the spots have not subsided, as it cakes on top of the other layers. Then tells me they are going to send me some free soap for inconvenience...what about money for the water bill for washing my dishes 500 times? DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT>>GO TO REAL ECO-FREINDLY STORES FOR ECO ITEMS!!!

Sadly, this didn't work for me either. By the 5th use it was leaving a slim and residue on the bottom of my dishwasher. Even washing twice didn't clean my dishes :( I liked that it was septic safe and phosphate free. I called the 1-800# on the back & they told me to clean out the dishwasher with 2 cups vinegar and are sending me a $4.00 check to reimburse me. Very good customer service but the product simply doesn't work well.

I rarely take the time to comment on products, but this time it's worth it. Palmolive Eco is terrible! It left residue on the majority of my dishes. It was so bad that I thought there was something wrong with my dishwasher. Then I switched back to tablets, which are more expensive. But they are clearly worth it, because now all my dishes are clean. DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT!

Has anyone found a way to get rid of the residue? I, too, bought the Lavender and have spent tons of money on glass cleaner, jet dry, and anything else I could find that might fix it. I didn't know it was the soap. I just got married in May and ALL of my wedding plates, two sets of silverware and all of the glasses are covered in the white junk. I'm going to be devastated if I can't find a way to get it off.

Possible Solution???
I read through everyone's posts yesterday, along with some other extensive internet research about this stuff, and I went out this morning and bought Cascade Complete (yes it's more expensive) and Finish Glass Magic. I put some of my white covered glasses and my chalky silverware in with both of those, along with the JetDry rinse agent I already had in my dishwasher, and everything came out clean. All the white residue is gone. I'm SO relieved that it's better, but mad that I had to spend so much, along with all the wasted water, to rewash. I will not buy Palmolive again. I just wanted to post what I found to work, so if you're having the same troubles, you might try it, too? I used the Lavender Palmolive Eco for over three months, so that stuff was pretty caked on, and the mix of those three products took it all off.

This product is Garbage. Palmolive Eco + is the worst Dish Detergent I've ever used. I will not be calling their 1-800#. Save your four dollars and do not buy this product. Store brands do better than this. I'm Fixing to get underneath my dishwasher and clean. I'm happier knowing so many people feel the same way about this horrible product. I'll be handwashing all my stuff until I feel confident that the garbage that was left on my dishes from this Palmolive Eco+ is fully removed from my dishes and my well-being. I want to clean my dishes, not accidentally feed my kids detergent. IT'S A TERRIBLE PRODUCT AND A WASTE OF WAL-MART SELF-SPACE. peace out.

After reading all the negative comments about Palmolive ECO I now know that it is not my dishwasher causing the white dried up soap crystals all over the dishwasher. I called the Palmolive 800 number and was advised to do a complete wash with vinegar. I still have a build up of dried white crystals. I will not buy this product again.
