It's kind of hard to believe, but the holidays are almost here! For us, Thanksgiving is around the corner and Christmas is not even 6 weeks away.
Sometimes, I have a tough time getting started when it's time to get in the spirit, and I depend on a few constants to get me in the spirit and make my holiday bright.
I really enjoy Christmas music, but I'm not one of those people that listens to it year round. So, when the time is right to me, usually early December, I crank it up and play my favorites and it really brightens the season for me.
Another signal that it's holiday time is our friend's annual Christmas caroling party. It's a long-standing tradition and has even been on the news as I think it's been going on for over 20 years. It's straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting (OK, a really chaotic Norman Rockwell painting, but still...), we meet, bundle up and go caroling in the neighborhood to raise money for a charity. Afterward, we go back to the house to thaw out and enjoy a chili dinner.
Finally, my holiday is literally bright the first time we light up the Christmas tree. I'm very particular about our tree lighting, possibly because we never had lights on the tree when I was growing up, I'm not sure, The decorations have to be completed before the lights are turned on, and I make the whole family watch the inaugural lighting.
When all those things take place, I feel like it's officially Christmas!

Right now I'm happy my son still believes in Santa! LOL Seriously though, Christmas is my favorite holiday. I like shopping for the perfect gift. I like the ritual of decorating the house, putting up the lights and decorating the tree. It's tradition for me to start playing Christmas music after the Thanksgiving dishes are cleaned and put away.

I truly enjoy being with my extended family. I have a rather large family and when we all cramp into 1 house to celebrate the holidays you are never alone! We enjoy playing board games, eating, telling stories/jokes, and slumbering on the floor or any other space available. Most importantly we love seeing the kiddos happy! So much joy comes from the smile of a child!

This could be a very loooong post. But suffice to say there are a lot of decorations, a big tree, the angel atop, blah, blah.
What really lights my season is setting out my Great Grandmother's nativity scene and having one of the kid's (well now its one of the grandkids) add the baby Jesus on Christmas Eve.

Hi BusyMom,
One thing that makes my season bright is seeing my husband act like a big kid. He starts getting excited right around this time when we walk into Bed, Bath, and Beyond and they are all ready playing christmas music. He'll ask "do you hear that?" "Yes dear, I hear it," but I can also see the smile on his face. . .and I can't help it. . . I start to smiling too. Before you know it we're both singing along before we reach the cutting boards.

What makes the season bright for me is watching my bf get excited about it. Growing up my family was VERY close and had BIG family dinners every sunday. From a young age I didn't really get into christmas. I think it was because my parents took the more religious angle with me. Sure i believed in Santa but I learned it was more of a religious holiday then the commerciallized one that had become so popular. So now as an adult watching my bf get excited for the big family dinner, seeing his nephews. He loves all the old time christmas music and im actually suprised he doesnt have it playing already.

I love the wonder and the magic of the season. I love seeing my young nieces and nephews delight in talking to santa. I love that they believe the story that I told them that as christmas gets closer and they see the lights in the sky at night (actually the lights on the wings of airplanes) that it is Santa checking with Rudolph to see who is good and who is naughty. They then straighten up and immediately state they are good.
I love doing little crafts with them so they say they made a gift for their parents ormy parents (their grandparents).
I also love spending time with my husband and family.

What makes my season bright is Christmas morning with my parents. I don't live at home anymore (not even the same state!) so this is a really special holiday for us to come back together and sort of all revert to our childhoods again as we sit around and unwrap presents that we all thoughtfully got for each other. We also invite nearby friends and/or family to dinner, and I'm not normally one for hosting or big fussy meals, but the holiday spirit totally takes over.
Thanks for this great opportunity!

When I was young, I remember my parents fighting the entire time they were putting up the Christmas tree. The lights were always tangled, my father was always upset that the tree was "unbalanced", and it was generally a stressful event I didn't enjoy. The first year my husband and I put up a tree (tiny! 3 feet! we had like fifteen ornaments!), we put on the Christmas album by Los Straightjackets and we had so much fun. And every year it is still fun. I love that it erases all of those stressful memories and makes me realize that the season is all about laughter and fun.

My favorite thing about Christmas is that feeling of togetherness. People travel from far and wide to be with family members and friends, people help those who don't have much by providing gifts and food, and people spend a little more time thinking about others rather than themselves. It's a warm time of year for me, no matter what the temperature.

Christmas is my FAVORITE holiday season. Perhaps my favorite day of the year, I love the Saturday after Thanksgiving, when I pack up the harvest stuff and unpack the Christmas decorations- all to the sounds of Mariah Carey's Christmas cd or Manheim Steamroller Christmas.
For Christmas gift exchange with my parents and siblings, we had a long standing tradition, since my parents first Christmas together- we listen to "Santa, Let's Disco," an 8 track my parents have had for almost 30 years. You guessed it, it's disco Christmas music. Its not Christmas without disco!

I too have a hard time getting into the spirit, but do love the season none the less. We often wait until the very last minute to put up light and tree and get the cards sent, but the Spirit of Christmas does hit us. This year is the first year we will get to see my sons face light up as he sees and begins to understand the things around him, Trees...lights....and yes toys. For that reason alone, Christmas will might start a little earlier for us this year.

Putting aside all the junk and drama and just enjoying some time together with family and friends. That makes my season bright.

Christmas music is number one on making my season bright! I look forward to Halloween because the very next day is the day that I can find my favorite radio station to listen to Christmas music!
I also love my little man and his excitement for the Christmas season. Yes, he is asking for every single toy on the commercials, but he is starting to understand that there is more to why we celebrate Christmas! It is a wonderful feeling!

I live out of state from my mom and sister/family. What makes this holiday season bright for me is I will be spending Christmas with them.

Family and our holiday traditions make the season bright for me. We have a 1 year old, and sharing the holidays with her will be the best!

What makes my season bright is the fact that when shopping my son pointed out an awesome toy and just when I thought he was going to say he needed it sooo badly for Christmas, he told me that this toy would make a little boy very happy that didn't have any toys of his own and that we should buy it. Talk about brightening my day and my season! You can't argue with logic like that. Even though it was kind of pricey, I told my son we would buy if he helped me wrap it. He agreed and we wrapped it donated it! Giving is the best part of the season and the fact that my son has picked up on that, makes me very happy!

What makes my holiday bright and festive? Getting the decorations up, a nice, cold day (not very common in South Texas), and taking the kids to look at decorations around the neighborhood.

Why is Developing a Mosque at Ground Zero really encouraged to take place? I have not heard anything at all so absolutely ridiculous in all my entire life. If this sometime approaches reality, It shall be the worst thing of all time. ada
