Target "Read With Me" iPad and children's books giveaway

Target Read With MeOne in four kids in the United States will not graduate high school.

Research proves that reading proficiently by the end of third grade is a significant milestone on the path to graduation. Third grade is a turning point at which children make the transition from learning to read to reading to learn.

This is important to me, I have a third grader.

As part of Target's Read With Me initiative, Target is helping more U.S. children reach this milestone through doubling it's current support of reading by setting a goal of $1 billion by 2015 donated to support education and helping children learn to read.

One of the best things you can do for your child's success is read to them every day. Join Target and pledge to commit to a regular reading schedule with a child; donating up to 2 million age-appropriate books to kids in need; and establishing a physical and virtual center of excellence for reading that will bring reading resources to children, parents and caring adults who need them.

Need to get started? Look for children's books and check out some fun reading activities.

I will read with the kids anytime they would like me too. I especially like to read before bedtime or on rainy/snowy days. Favorite childrens book is still One Fish Two Fish. Dr. Suess still rules.

Liz:

My favorite children's book was "Goodnight Moon." :)

My favorite time of the day is reading books to our 9-month old twins at bedtime. Mom, Dad, and the babies all snuggle together on the bed and Mom & Dad take turns reading some our favorites: Llama Llama Red Pajama, I Love You Through & Through, Guess How Much I Love You, and more. Even at this young age, the babies LOVE to look at books and reach out for the pages.

Liz:

Entry #2 - I tweeted about this. (I am @yesnofilms - not sure how to link to a tweet, sorry)

My favorite children's book is Todd Parr's "Peace Book". So incredible and inspiring! We love taking our girls to the public library and reading together snuggled up on the couch! Thanks for the giveaway!!

Amy:

Hi BusyMom,

Well, I'm not a mom (wish I were!) but my favorite thing to do with my two nephews is read to/with them. My younger nephew loves anything Curious George, and my older nephew is into Roald Dahl - who was one of my favorite authors as a child. I also liked Amelia Bedilia!

I love reading to my girls. We like to curl up on my bed and read. Right now our favorite books are the Knuffle Bunny series... we own all 3! :)

I'd love to win this ipad.

With two grandbabies and three more on the way, we will be doing lots and lots of reading with the kids. I wonder if I could ever find my old favorite, "Pookie and the Swallows" ... loved that book as a child. (My mother, who had to read it over and over and over, likely does not share in that sentiment!)

My favorite children's book is "The Wizard of Oz" (Oz Series 1). And lucky for me I've introduced that book to my Goddaugther and now she loves; we normally read in living room after school when I visit.

Favorite time to read was just before bedtime in the tv room with the tv off! Thank you for a chance to win!!

Tanya Yarbrough:

I have a third grader and a fifth grader. We've always enjoyed reading together.

Reading is part of our bedtime routine. I used to read to them. Then we took turns reading to each other - a word here or there and then alternate pages. Now they read to themselves and I get a recap from them about what they read the night before. One morning over Christmas break, I awoke to find Harry Potter on my bedside table with a sticky note, "Finished. 2 A.M. It was good!"

Our family recently discovered and inhaled the Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull. We take turns reading to the family on car trips to Grandma's house!

Thanks for doing this contest. Keeping my eyes, arms, fingers, legs, and toes crossed that I win.

Good Luck to all!

Ryan Ravitz:

I will read with my kids so they can learn how to read and my favorite childhood book was "The Little House" by Virginia Lee Burton

This may be cheezy but my kids favorite and most valuable book is the Bible. It amazes me how much they cherish their own Bibles and read it. Another favorite book is Skippity Jon Jones! :) We love to read anywhere and at bedtime.

So far, my boys' favorite book is Coyote Autumn by Bill Wallace. I still read to them occasionally - usually before bed in my room. Also, each of us enjoy reading in the living room before bed - each with our own book... in our own worlds. I love it.

My favorite children's book is The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein!

we read little critter books by mercer mayer. AND there's a monster under my bed. well...anything by mercer mayer is my son's fave. he's in 1st grade and he's all of a sudden starting to get into captain underpants books so we read 2 chpts/nite.

awesome giveaway, thx for the opportunity.

I loved reading the Little House Books to my daughter - it instilled a life long love of the west and all that it meant to live on the prairie. Plus, we have visited many of the sites!

Erika:

Despite being a hater pre-kids, I have really come to appreciate Good Night Moon its rhythmic calmness.

My favorite time to read with my kids is at bedtime. My favorite book to read to my kids is The Pokey Little Puppy (a childhood favorite of mine).

Mommy's Hands is one of our favorite. Such a favorite, we even quote phrases from it every now and then we joke to each other. I love reading to her in bed. It's just so sweet and reminds me how wonderful it is to be a mother and have a child.

I am a huge fan of "Guess How Much I Love You" and "There's a Monster at the End of This Book"

My son is currently obsessed with Richard Scary.

What a great giveaway!

I collect children's books so it would be hard for me to choose just one but I heart the Mrs. Piggle Wiggle series and have since I was a kid.

Chag:

We read to both kids every night right before bed. My favorite kids' book has always been And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street.

My favorite place to read to the kids is underneath the oldest's loft bed. We have some pillows and light that only illuminates under there. It's so cozy!

Currently my, and their, favorite book is "Mouse was Mad".

Great contest - thanks!

My favorite time to read with my son is bedtime, when he was younger... just after he got into his pjs and was quieting down. Reading books where you need to whisper were the best, because he would say, "Can you say that again, quieter?!?" with a little grin on his face.

Now he's a teen, we read together at night before going to bed. We have chosen not to have TV right now, mostly he chose. We read the Sunday comics together, we share talks about novels he's reading in school, poetry (like Poe) and his love of mythology.

Anyhow, would love to win the IPAD ;~D

VJ:

Right now my kids and I are reading the Little House books during lunch. They enjoy it; and it allows us to enjoy each other and our meal for a bit longer during the day.

Other favorite books my kids enjoy are animal books (for DeeDee) and Space and science books (for Tony)

My favorite children's book is Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

My favorite book by far is "Ferdinand". I love reading to my kids right before bed - it's so cozy.

My favorite children's book is the Babysitter's Club. Can't wait to introduce them to my daughter. Which really should be right now. haha!

And my favorite time and place to read with her is at bedtime snuggled on the couch.

VJ:

I've had a twitter account for quite a while, but this is the first time I've used it. Did I do this right? check@VJeanDuran

When my kids were little, we loved reading Where the Wild Things Are and Good Night Moon. Now that they are older we still read together. We love good series, like the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Lightening Thief and Aretmis Fowl with the boys, Princess Academy and May Bird Series with my daughter. We like to read in the evenings or before bed.

One of my favorite childhood books was an tongue twister tale called Mr. Shaw's Shipshape Shoe Shop. We loved to ask my nana read it to us because she was the most flustered by it yet never said no. We still have this book.

Thanks for the giveaway!

I have to say my most favorite book is Goodnite Moon. I bought the book for my son 14 years ago and I've read the book to all 3 of my kids. My youngest who is five, loves it and even though she now reads to me, she likes when I read it to her right before bed - which is our usual spot for book reading. Thx for the opp.

Right now we are reading a lot of Magic Tree House. I actually need some new ideas for my son, we seem to be at an in between phase.

I actually like to read before bedtime, in the living room right after they shower.

Carrie L.:

My 2 1/2 year old daughter's favorite book for me to read to her, is Hugo and the really really really long string. I read it to her every night in her room before bed.

As a child, I adored our copy of "Hop on Pop" because my grandfather would read it to me. It was my favorite thing to do when I visited my grandparents. It thrills me that my children love books! My oldest is just a few weeks away from his 9th birthday, and his love of reading knows no limits! He has devoured several series of books, but the Percy Jackson series is his favorite. I am amazed at his knowledge of Greek Mythology at such a young age. My two preschoolers love to crawl up in my lap and listen to me read their favorite books. I hope they continue to love books, just as I hope to always show them my love for reading. Thanks for hosting this contest!

Carrie L.:
Sherry:

I love to read to my kids when they are tucked in their beds ready to relax and sleep. I read books like Ramona by Beverly Cleary. They can just listen and not look at pictures. It creates visual that they come up with for the story on their own. I remember my fifth grade teacher reading to us and the movie it created in my imagination. I hope to do the same for them.

It's really hard to pick a fav. But right now I'm enjoy the Geronimo Stilton books with my son. I've read to my children every night since they were old enough to enjoy listening to me read :)

Jennifer G:

My little mans' favorite book is" O The Places You Will Go" by Dr.Suess he loves the colorful pictures and rhyming words( he's 2) and our favorite place to read is in a corner by his bed I set up with big comfy pillows, we call it his reading place and it's set up with bookshelves of his favorite books.

We love Kevin Hankes books, mine being Lilly and the Purple Plastic Purse.

Jennifer G:

There's to many favorite books but I think all of our favorite time ( I have an 8 year old girl and 4 year old boy) is right before bed we all pile into my bed and cuddle up with 3 or 4 books that each of us have picked and then I'll read all of them before lights out. Both kids love being read to and the 8 year old now loves reading on her own as well.

I'm partially biased about the books we read because I do direct sales for Barefoot Books but outside of those my daughter and I love to read Ladybug Girl and Fancy Nancy together before bed. She's always extra good at bedtime so she'll get "just one more story".

My favorite books to read my kids are books that fit w/each season. At Christmas we read books about our beliefs...books about Frosty, Santa, and the Grinch. Later in winter we Snowmen at Night, While the Bear Sleeps. We love to read when we are nice in cozy in bed in the evening, but we also read when we want something fun to do together as a family, which can be anytime of day! Thank you

My favorite childrens book is Skippy Jon Jones. It's about a little kitten imagining to be more than he is. I used to read it to my kids every so often and make funny voices for all the characters.

My favorite time to read to my kids is bed time. We just lay back, pull out a good book and read. A great way to wind down the day.

Candice Cross:

The first book I "read" on my own was Green Eggs and Ham. My parents thought they had a prodigy, but I had just memorized the story word-for-word. When they tried to turn pages back or skip ahead, I was caught!

Connie C:

Too many favorites to pick just one.

My favorite as a child was Goodnight Moon - but I think one of the best experiences I've had reading to my daughters has been The Little House on the Prairie Series. It took months to get through all of them and was such an incredible journey.

Melissa Lawrence:

Alice In Wonderland was my childhood favorite. I did get a chance to see it on a friend's iPad. It was amazing to see the animation along side the words. Truely a fabulous way to read with children

Delores Wynn:

An oldie, but all the biscuit books.Biscuit makes a friend is the first one I bought. All children love 'puppy' books.
I always enjoyed reading to them at odd times. No TV on,so reading was quiet and attentive.

Since my son is 15, I now spend a lot of time reading to my nieces. One is autistic and the other just loves reading. Their favorite stories are Where the Wild Things Are and anything about animals!

Lori:

My all-time favorite children's book is "Where the Wild Things Are"! I also like "Harry the Dirty Dog".

All time favorite is still Horton Hears a Who by Dr. Seuss. I cry every time. Because a person's a person, no matter how small.

Larisa :

My kids fave was Goodnight Moon. Of course we read it at bedtime. And every first time mom friend gets it from us as a gift.

My fave growing up was a story called The Seven Sneezes. A kid on a farm sneezed and everyone got their body parts all mixed up!

Karissa:

Our favorite book is Where the Wild thing Are. We love to read anywhere including the bed and on the porch.

Karissa:

My other favorite book to read is Where is Mummy?

Will:

Favorite is James and the Giant Peach, a classic!

won:

Well....the book that is fondest in my heart is and always will be "Love You Forever".

As my eleven year old daughter Olivia lay in a coma, aware that her hearing would be one of the last things to go....I read her that book. It was the last book I ever read her in her life. She passed away a few hours later.

"As long as I'm living, my baby you'll be"....goes the story. And thus, the story will always be the most special one.

Jennifer:

I think after 4 kids, and over 16 years of parenting, I have too many favorites. :-) We've loved the original Thomas the Tank Engine stories, Brown Bear, all the Sandra Boynton books, Ella Sarah Gets Dressed, the Tom & Pippo series, Pumpkin Soup, and My Penguin Osbert. One that really had an impact on us all was The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. :-) Our favorite place to read is snuggled up on the couch together.

Jennifer:

I also retweeted MeaganFrancis's tweet about the contest since I haven't used twitter in forever, and apparently the old twitter is gone and I couldn't figure out how to post a link with the new version, or how to link to a tweet. http://twitter.com/#!/leannansi

sarah:

My 6-month-old and I are on a big Sandra Boynton kick right now. Short, rhyming books are key for wiggly babies. I also like Big Red Barn for bedtime, and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom for playtime.
Love all the suggestions for books that everyone is giving!

Cincy:

My favorite book when I was a little girl was 'This Room is Mine!' which I've never been able to find again. My kids were more drawn to The Berenstain Bears series. I'm tweeting it, too, @hessleman. Thanks!

My kids have had so many favorite books at different ages. As toddlers, they all loved "Red Hat, Green Hat" (I think that's the name - yikes). More recently, they all loved it when we read The Giver out loud. They couldn't wait for more!

"The Monster at The End of This Book"!!!

I got a Nook for Christmas and my 10yo son has staked his claim to it. So far, he has been the only one to buy a book for it!

I love all of Eric Carle's books, especially The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

There are so many really fantastic children's books. One of my very favorite is Jenny and the Cat Club about a shy little black cat with a red scarf who hangs out with a cat club.

I love, love, love children's books. I read to my kids every single night. I give books as gifts for newborn babies too. Readers are leaders!

Hey I tweeted this too:
I want to win @busymom 's iPad. It's the least she could do since she didn't take me to the beach with her.

Cheryl:

My favorite time to read to my daughter is right after her bath, curled up in her blanket, ready for bed. She's having a very tough time learning to read and is about to be tested for dyslexia. I read to her constantly. She loves so many different kinds of stories. I don't think she has a favorite.

The Harry Potter series and the magic treehouse books. Junie B Jones wins points too.

My favorite book to read aloud with my girls is "I Stink!" by Kate Mcmullan and Jim Mcmullan. They LOVE the noises I make when reading it and looking at the crazy-gross pictures in the book. We read aloud in the afternoons as a mini-downtime for all of us.

my favorite childrens book has always been where the wild things are!

Melissa:

Jen:

My favorite board book is "Guess How Much I Love You." My two boys adored it when they were younger. Now it's all about dinosaurs and space!

My favorite book was always The Velveteen Rabbit. Whenever I'd visit my aunt she'd pull out her old copy of the book and read it to me before bed each night. I loved the end when the rabbit became real because of a child's love - so sweet!

Simone:

Angela:

When my 11 yr old son was one, I bought him Tumble Bumble by Felicia Bond. It's a wonderful book, filled with wonderful illustrations. My son loved it and now my daughter does, too. I'd have to say it's become our favorite. We also really like The Rhyme Bible Storybook for Toddlers by Linda Sattgast. I think everyone in our family knows both books from memory.

Angela:

Oops. Just realized I didn't say when or where we read. We tend to read at bedtime in our family room, snuggling up by the fireplace. Sorry about that.

Angela:

Ok, not sure what happened to my first comment. Our favorite books are Tumble Bumble by Felicia Bond and The Rhyme Bible for Toddlers by Linda Sattgast. They both have great illustrations.

Samantha:

My son and I have reading time every evening after Dino Dan (LOL) Right now we are reading our way through the Clifford Phonics set

the giving tree. It has a wonderful message for kids AND adults!

Julie:

My favorite children's books are anything by Louis Sachar, Lois Lowry, or Paula Danziger. They are masters of their domain.

My favorite children's book is "frog and toad" (love it) and love to read to my kids anytime of the day, but the best time is close to bedtime when my little one is getting drowsy and the older kids are winding down for the night (in bed or on the couch)
tbarrettno1 at gmail dot com

Tina Page:

Historically the kids and I always had an hour before bed all snuggled in to read as a family. As they have aged 15, 12, & 10 they are now) it has become less of a family ritual, but we still read together daily. I have also never shied from reading classic "adult" books to them and they all enjoy different mythologies. I am working on my Master's degree in Library Science so books have permeated their lives since the beginning. We have recently been reading the Galstanberry Girlz as a family and it is quite good so far. Also, I was recently turned on to wegivebooks.org which allows you to read books online and for each book you read one is donated to an organization of your choosing. We have been reading SkippyJon Jones books because they are so much fun to mimic the character voices!

Katherine C.:

We love to read while snuggling on the couch. One of my kids favorite books is Green Eggs and Ham.

its touching how you glance at one person one day and say how could i have ever loved them… then… the next you can have the courage to say to that same person i still love you. moved this particular discussion to e-mail for those directly involved!

Kenny N:

We love to read before we go to bed. I love the bernstein bear books

Ok ive made my decision, im subscribing, this is awesome, keep it comin.

Karen N:

My favorite children's book of all time is The Sneetches by Dr. Seuss. I love the message that the story of the Sneetches teaches and I love the hilarity of Too Many Daves. Great Book and Great Blog.

Jess:

I love Goodnight Moon. We read it to Syd every night. She usually even asks for it. We read at bedtime every day and throughout the day on the weekends. It breaks my heart that some kids can't read or don't get to have books. Let's fix that.

Linda Dimmer:

My kids and I love to curl up and read a good book together. We have too many favorites to list just one. But some of our favorite reading spots include our library's "Sunshine Room," our bay window seat, and my younger son's "book nook." It's not just about learning to read, it's also about bonding, and having fun! :)

I really enjoyed reading some of the Wizard of Oz series with my kids!

Chanelle:

As an English teacher, I know how important reading is, fundamentally. So whenever my four-year-old son wants to read a book, I leap at the chance. Though he cannot fall asleep without being read a book, and that may be his favorite time, my favorite time is whenever I see the eagerness in his eyes while asking me to read a book. He is really into Mercer Mayer’s Little Critter books, and I bet they would look really cool on this iPad! Thanks for a great giveaway and promoting the importance of reading!

Christina:

We love to read everywhere and anywhere! We always read at night before bed, after breakfast when we have the time. I always have a book (or 5) in my bag for doctor appointments or waiting for the big kids to come out of school. When the weather is nice we love getting new books from the library, playing and then reading under a tree at the park. Some of our all time favorites are - Good Night Moon, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Velveteen Rabbit, Dr. Suess. As a family, we read aloud, the Little House series. Chanelle:

Right now my son is loving ANYTHING by Mercer Mayer, and I did as a child too!

Laurie Burrow:

I teach 2nd grade and the favorite part of my day is right after lunch when I read a book to the class. The students absolutely love to be read to! Several students have told me that this is one of their favorite parts of the school day.

Yes, but if I won, I would be more than happy to share it with you :) Thanks for giving me the chance!!!

Favorite reading spot: on the beach!!!

Stesha:

My favorite book as a child, and now a favorite of my children, is Beauty and the Beast. We keep a copy of it on an old bookshelf that we painted!

Scott:

My son's favorite book right now is Tumble Bumble. We love reading it just before bedtime!

My personal favorite always to read at bedtime is Goodnight Moon, and I also always give it as part of a baby shower gift. There are so many good books out there for children, though, that we get most of ours at the library or there simply wouldn't be room for anything else!

I personally love all the Richard Scarry books, always have since childhood. My son is now getting into them. Our favorite time to read is before he goes to bed in his bed.

I don't know how you put a twitter link with a specific tweet up, but I DID tweet it! http://twitter.com/

brian :

One of my favorite books to read is "If you give a pig a pancake." My kids are pretty much too old to read it, now, they are moving on to 'chapter books,' which is exciting for them but sad for me, because we can't seem to share them in quite the same way.

I love to read the little house on the prairie series to my girls every night before bed.

My daughter likes for us to read her a few stories on and off during the day and at night she piles books onto her bed in her nightly ritual of reading them aloud (she's 3 and not quite reading!) until she falls asleep, books in hand, over her face, under her, all over the floor. My kids love books!

We love reading together right before bed. 4 books, sometimes 6. It's quality time that we all like and it's great for the kids too. They smell nice fresh from the bath and everyone is calm. It makes the crazies of the day ok.

My favorite children's book right now is "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". My grandson was having a hard time with reading comprehension in school. Since he loved the movies so much, I bought the book for him, and read with him when I could, and discussed it with him on the phone when I couldn't be there. I won't take the credit,(great book, after all), but he seems to have developed a real love for reading over the last year.

I especially love reading at naptime and bedtime. We all climb into my bed and get cozy before we read. My son has started "reading" some of his favorites to us, which is particularly awesome. He's 3.5 and has a few books memorized almost verbatim, he could almost fool you into thinking he really knows how to read!

And my favorite book from my own childhood that is sadly out of print: "Need a House, Call Ms. Mouse!" I hope they re-print it.

candace:

I have committed to reading to my 3 year old from day 1. We read the same book (usually plus a few others) each night before bed - " I Love You Goodnight". But my favorite time to read to him is when he spontaneously sits in the middle of the room and says "story time!"

With a 2 & 4 yr old, we read a story each time out of the Family Treasury of Bible Stories that has been in my family for years. I remember snuggling up to my Mom avidly listening to her read it. I now love to read and firmly believe that her reading to me instilled this love and I want to pass on my love of reading!

I would LOVE to read with my kids daily, but on weeknights, our schedule is so tight, it doesn't work out. :( Fortunately, they read a lot at daycare, and on weekends, we put at least two hours aside, often more, to read together. Our current favourites are the Rainbow Magic series.

The weekends are our favorite time to read together - since they are independent readers there is this lovely quiet time on the weekends when each of the kids and my hubby and me each have a book and the house is in a quiet lull in the family room as we are all engrossed in our individual books.

When they were younger, the Junie B Jones series and Harry Potter series were go-to books for us.

Lisa:

My favorite children's book is Horton Hatches the Egg. I loved this book as a child and I really love it now as a mom. I always get choked up when the egg hatches and an elephant-bird pops out and the text reads:

And it should be, it should be, it SHOULD be like that!
Because Horton was faithful! He sat and he sat!
He meant what he said
And he said what he meant...
And they sent him home
Happy,
One Hundred per cent!

Reading to my 3 year old is our favorite everyday, no-matter-what, activity. We read before naps and before bed time. I love how books often launch a myriad of questions including language, motive, and culture. If I could be a "professional children's book reader" I would do it in a heartbeat.

Man, I usually don't enter to win stuff but Laurel was just asking about an iPad. For real.

Anyway, even so she's not a total tech geek (shockingly). We have always spent a lot of time reading...it's one of our favorite cuddly time activities. And one of the great things is that she's now into chapter books that I loved as a girl and that still resonate now. So fun!

Right now she's really into the Little House on the Prairie books. We literally spent two hours on the couch the other day after school curled up reading Little House.

Jill L:

I really love to read to the kids right after dinner. We all gather in the living room and get cozy. For myself tho, I like Horton Hears a Who!

My favorite children's book is The Boxcar Children. It was my absolute favorite book as a child. I read it over and over again and was enthralled with the idea of four children trying to live all on their own in a boxcar. What a wonderful adventure! I now read that book every year to my "kids" who are my second graders. Our favorite place to read the story is over in our special reading corner. We have a cozy chair which belonged to my grandmother, a large blue rug and a reading lamp. We turn off the classroom lights and turn on our reading lamp and we are whisked off on a reading adventure on our "magic carpet". It is one of the best times of our day together!

My favorite books to read with the boys is the Magic Treehouse series. We have 25 of them and a ton more to go! The boys love them and I will admit I enjoy reading them as well.

Always read to them before bedtime. Always.

We love to read at bedtime, every night. My kids have many of their favorites memorized, and I'll skip a page just to hear them correct me. :)

Lisa Kosh:

My favorite book to read to my 3 year old daughter is The Giving Tree. It teaches children about being kind and caring. I usually pull this book out when my daughter is not in her sharing mood. This book reminds her to be more giving and puts her in a great mood. We usually snuggle on our sofa when reading this book!

WOW - my favorite???? My master's is in Young Adult Lit - I'm pretty sure I don't have just one favorite! My favorite book for the week in my preschool class, though, is The Keeping Quilt by Patricia Polacco. LOVE that book. My favorite read-with-my-11-year-old book right now is Eragon (except the names confuse me!). And, with my 6 year old, I'm currently holding Llama, Llama, Mad At Mama on the favorite list.

Reading is SUCH an integral part of our lives. It is my hope to teach my children how it is a necessary joy in our lives so that they can share that love and joy with others.

Brenda Lewis:

We read at least once a day because my girl loves books! I think her favorite book of all-time is "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?" We have read that book SO many times over the past 4 years that she can recite it!

I still read with my kids, and they're 13 and 11, only now instead of reading at bedtime, we go to the library and each of us picks a book. We find a quiet corner and I read the first two chapters of each book out loud. We vote and that's the book we take home. Then, in the summer we lay on floaties in the pool and I read to us, and when it's too cold for the pool we sit in the living room on the couch and read on the weekends. It's the little things.

Terri B:

I love "Go Dog Go." It was my husband's favorite when he was a little boy. I love to hear him read it to our son! TxTerri/at/aol/com

Iwould always read to my daughter right before bed. My favorite book to read to her was the Complete Collection of Winnie the Pooh.

Now that she is older, we have done the Harry Potter series, The Baby Sitter Club books and Little House on the Prairie. It is fun now that she can read and we have taken turns reading. Her reading skills have improved by taking turns.
