You may recall I'm part of a Blogger Fitness Challenge with Omron.
I've been wearing the Omron HJ-112N Pocket Pedometer for a few weeks now with the goal of increasing my steps each day.
I've really been amazed at how much (or little) I walked in an average day. Tracking my steps makes me much more conscious of walking more and moving more in my day to day activities.
I've even been pretty consistent in reaching the recommended 10,000 steps daily! It's interesting what you can do when you concentrate on it!
My good friend, Bob Greene, answered a couple of questions for me about getting more activity in during the day.
For real, THE Bob Greene, and he was TALKING TO ME!
He gave me some suggestions for being more active when I spend a lot of the day at work or at kids' activities.

what seems to work for me is to schedule an exact time that i am going to being my work out because it forces you to get up, leave what you're doing if possible and just get it over with.

My calendar lists all classes at the gym, plus scheduled time for my daily run. If I don't want to do it, I just remind myself that my trainer wil 'beat me half to death" the next time I see her if I skip it.

On weekends when running errands, I try to park as far away from the door as I can to force myself to walk just a bit more than normal. At home during the week, I turn up the tunes and shake a bit of booty when I'm cleaning. It makes the time go by a bit faster and makes cleaning a bit more fun.

Have kids. They keep you running ALL THE TIME! lol...
Best tip is to do something with a friend. Then the two of you will hold each other accountable every day.

While I was unemployed, I made sure to schedule my workout at the same time every day. Now that I am working again, I find it harder to take the time to work out. Too tired when I get home from work, to busy with other things on my days off, etc. Sheesh.

I stay active, because if I don't at least do some tai chi, my muscles feel twitchy and I don't sleep well.

I try to park far away from entrances and take stairs whenever possible to keep my activity level up. I also use the recumbent bike at night whenever I watch my favorite TV programs.

My best tip for staying active on a busy dauy is to try and incorporate exercise in everything you do... If you have to run errands..park farther away so you have to walk...going to a second or third floor..take the stairs instead of the elevator. Little things like this add up to a lot at the end of a long, busy day.

Thanks for the giveaway... always use the stairs, and park your car in a space far away from your building entrance to encourage physical activity.

Always stay active no matter how small. For example take the stairs instead of the elevator : )
