SWAGG: Collect all your gift cards in one place

SWAGGSWAGG (has sound) has launched a new app that deals with the troublesome problem of how to deal with the overabundance of gift cards, loyalty & membership cards that clutter up your wallet or handbag.

The SWAGG app lets you load all those gift cards, loyalty points, etc into your iPhone or Android mobile device. Voila, now you can shop from your phone.

Did I mention the app is free?

Another cool thing is that the app allows you to "give or get." You can give a gift card directly from your mobile device. You can also enter your zip code upon downloading and get offers that are redeemable at stores in your area.

And if giving and getting aren't enough, the very download of the app gives back. SWAGG has partnered with the non-profit organization Stand Up to Cancer.

Every time you download the app between now and December 31,2011, SWAGG will donate $1 to Stand Up to Cancer – up to $125,000.

Using my SWAGG account

SWAGG A while back, I introduced you to SWAGG (has sound), the app that helps you deal with the gift cards, loyalty & membership cards that clutter up your wallet or handbag.

The SWAGG app lets you load all those gift cards, loyalty points, etc into your iPhone or Android mobile device. Voila, now you can shop from your phone, and you can also use them online.

I had a gift card to Omaha Steaks in my SWAGG account. I decided to try out ordering online since you can use SWAGG online as well as on your iPhone or Android.

It was easy to do. When I went to check out, I used the "use online" selection under my gift card in my SWAGG account, and it gave me the information (a Discover Card number, actually): name, card number, expiration, etc. to use just like a credit card on my order.

I placed my order, and now I have STEAK on the way!

I can access my card balance on my phone as well to see if I have enough for my next order.

SWAGG is a great way to have all those gift cards with you. I'm forever losing them or hanging onto them, not really knowing my balance, and I know I've given up a lot of money not using them over the years.

Did I mention the app is free? You can download SWAGG here.

Moby - Private location sharing

Moby_Logo.jpgMoby is private location sharing service that enable you to share your location with the people you choose and for the length of time you want.

Moby is a free iPhone app (Android coming soon) and you can see your friends or family's location on a map after they share it. You can share your own location with other users you choose and you can request a check-in from someone if you need to know where they are. You can even send out an emergency request for help, letting people know your location.

You can also share your location to your friends and family who are not using the Moby app via SMS and Email. They will receive a secure link on their smartphone or computer which will take them to a private map showing your 10 most recent locations. The map will automatically update every 2 minutes until you stop sharing location.

Moby can be used for families to keep in touch. I have a teenager who's a fairly new driver, and it can be a challenge to get her to let me know (as she is supposed to do) when she changes location. And, let's face it, sometimes you want confirmation that a teenagers is where she says she is.

We both have iPhones, so we tried Moby. It's not hard to install or use, but you might want to practice a little before you give it a go out on the town.

It works quite nicely, and it's been handy to know she's really where she says she is, and that she can quickly and discretely let me know. She's even checked in without me requesting it on occasion!

Moby

The only downside is that it can drain the phone battery, but I understand Moby is working on that and an update is due in August, 2011.
