SONIC's $2.99 Quarter Pound Footlong Coney and gvieaway

Even though summer is on it's way out, it's never to late for SONIC's new and improved Foot Long Coney.

It's a quarter pound hot dog (maybe even enough for 2 people!) smothered in chili and cheese, and it's tasty! I just this moment realized I took the picture of mine below before I put the chili on it, but you get the idea.

You can order it any way you want it: chili, mustard, onions, cheese and more. If you're still hungry after that, SONIC has 99-cent one-topping sundaes made with Real Ice Cream after 8:00 p.m. from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Oneida Chef's Table

<img alt="OneidaChefsTable.jpg" src="http://WWW.busymom.net/reviews/OneidaChefsTable.jpg" width="175" height="175" align="left" hspace="10/>If you like tableware, and you think of Oneida as the staid, formal china from your mom's generation, think again.

Oneida has several new lines: Chef's Table, Culinaria, Color Burst, and Tranquility Blue.

I love all-white dishes, and I received some pieces from the Oneida Chef's Table Collection, including this 3 Section Dipping Dish for review.

Not only are they crisp, white dishes, they are interesting shapes, dishwasher and microwave safe and they're also specially designed to be chip-resistant, an important feature when you're at our house!

Even though they're all white, they're not boring, and they look great on their own, or they will compliment your other dishes and give your table a new look and show off your food.

Be sure to check out these as well as all the things Oneida has to offer, and take advantage of their great sales.

No payment or compensation other than the product samples as described above were received for this post.

Schick Intuition Plus Kiss & Tell Party at BlogHer '10

I'm traveling, and at BlogHer '10 where I'd love to tell you how I Keep It Simply Smooth (KISS) with Schick Intuition Plus, but I lost my credit card before I went to the airport, so I may not be a credible source about that today!

Other than that little sideshow, when I travel, I try to keep things simple by packing efficiently, and I bring important things in a sturdy carry-on, since there's nothing like your bag breaking in the middle of the terminal!

As for keeping it simply smooth in New York, I've only been here once before, but so far I know you need to wear sensible shoes to get anywhere!

Schick is throwing a Kiss and Tell Party here at BlogHer with a special performance by Gavin DeGraw, music by DJ Mia Moretti with electronic violinist, Caitlin Moe.

Until then, how do you Keep It Simply Smooth?

I am delighted to be working with Schick at the BlogHer 2010 Conference and beyond. I am compensated for my time and advertising, but I bought the razor on my own, and darn if I didn't end up liking it!

Goodwrench offers tire care tips

In one month, we will have a new driver, and we're in the market for a new car.

There are lots of things I worry about (Me? Worry? I know, I hide it well, huh?), and car maintenance and safety, especially tires, is high on the list.

When you're an experienced driver, you feel like you know how to handle your worn or finicky tires, but really everyone should know how to take care of tires and when to replace them.

It's summer. and many of us are on the road, and the nice folks at Goodwrench offer these tire tips:

- According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA,) 660 fatalities and 33,000 injuries occur every year due to tire-related problems.

- Keeping your family vehicle’s tires inflated to the recommended pounds per square inch (psi) will not only save on gas, but will provide a safer ride.

- It’s important to keep in mind that during the warm weather of summer, hot road surfaces can cause the pressure to increase in a tire. As a general rule, for every 10-degree rise in temperature, a tire’s pressure increases one psi.

- Invest in a quality tire gauge! Eyeballing tires to measure pressure can be misleading, as radial tires often look fine even if they are under-inflated.

Drive safely!

Giveaway - Morning Routine Tips and Eggo Real Fruit Pizzas

Like most families, our morning routine can get a little hectic, especially on school days.

We wrestle with how to get everyone fed and out the door on time, with the things they need, preferably without the neighbors calling to complain. It can be an intricately timed mission, or an exercise in futility, it depends on the day.

I’m not an expert, and, I don’t play one on the Internet, either, but, here are some of the things we do to make the mornings easier. Some of them are obvious, but, they may be easier said than done:

1. Prepare everything the night before – NO exceptions - When we are running late or have a frazzled morning, it’s almost always because we’ve said: “Eh, skip it, we’ll do it in the morning." the night before.

I try to have lunches made, backpacks by the door, gym clothes bagged, folders signed, clothes (including shoes) located, and, laid out etc. even if I'm tired. I make the kids show me that everything is ready to “go out the door” before they go to bed.

2. Get ready for Monday on Friday night – Since I have self-diagnosed Sunday Affective Disorder, I’m always looking for ways to make it better.

I make myself prepare lunch money, wash gym clothes and school uniforms, locate sports equipment, and, look in backpacks and folders, etc. on Friday night, so that I enjoy being ahead a bit on Sunday evening.

3. Post a list of what items are needed each day – We have an index card on the back door with a heading for each day of the week. Under each day of the week there is a complete list of what everyone needs to take out the door with them and, any after school activities that day.

4. Make a “launch pad” – we have a bakers rack with shelves for each kid by the back door where they can store items that need to go out the door with them each day. Ideally, they’d put stuff back there at the end of the day, but, well, we don’t live in an ideal world, now, do we?

5. Stick to the same routine each day – From wake-up times, to when everyone should be at breakfast, do it the same time and in the same order every day.

We've tried not to get in the habit of letting the kids eat breakfast on the run, and for the most part, they sit down to eat.

My youngest child is approximately 93% frozen waffle, so we eat a lot of Eggos around here (sometimes still frozen) in the mornings. So, when I was offered the opportunity to try the new Eggo Real Fruit Pizzas, I was all over that.

We were excited when they arrived in the mail:

But, got a little distracted by the dry ice they came packed in:

Anyway, Eggo Real Fruit Pizzas are an all-in-one combination of fruit, warm toasted granola on an oven-baked cinnamon pastry, and it only takes one minute in the microwave to enjoy them. They are available in Strawberry Granola and Mixed Berry Granola flavors.

We got to try out both flavors. Despite what I said earlier about making the kids sit down to eat, my daughter was in a hurry this time, and we didn't have much else in the house for breakfast (don't judge), so our first foray was Eggo Real Fruit Pizzas made to go:

She was a little skeptical about the concept at first, but was quickly surprised at how good they were. The strawberries are actual strawberries (hence the "real fruit" part, methinks), and they remained cold (in a good, non-smushy fruit way) while the rest of it was warm and toasty.

The crust was good, too. I'm always a little wary of bread type things in the microwave, but this has a great texture (you can put it in the oven for a crispier crust if you'd like). It's a little sweet, but not overly so, with a slight maple flavor.

Eggo Real Fruit Pizzas are a hit here, and they make a great, warm alternative to the standard cereal bar fare.

Frigidaire Test Drive: Team Dishwasher - Does it clean?

What's the latest from Frigidaire Team Dishwasher?

We've been using our Frigidaire Dishwasher for several months, and I've told you about many of the features I enjoy such as the flexible space and energy saving features.

It's really nice looking, and it's so quiet (compared to our old one, anyway). There are lots of settings, and there's sure to be one to meet your needs.

Like I told you a while back, we'd had the same dishwasher for nearly 20 years, and it was a great change for me to have an up to date one! Once I got a routine down regarding the best way to load our particular dishes, we were off and running.

We did have occasional trouble with the soap door, at first. But, that was resolved by making sure the water was warmed up before starting the dishwasher (due to a combination of living in an old house, and the water heater being in the basement), and taking care to put the taller items on the opposite side of it on the bottom rack.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, but does it clean the dishes?", you might be thinking to yourself.

Here, see for yourself:

Before

After

We've had great results. I'm doing a lot less rinsing now, as I used to have to practically wash the dishes before I put them in the dishwasher with our old one. Also, having a new dishwasher that encourages the use of a rinse agent, has made a difference (no idea why I wasn't using that stuff before!).

It's also quite sturdy so far, even with it's electronics and push buttons. We can really put appliances to the test around here, and we haven't broken it!

If you're in the market for a dishwasher, I'd be happy to answer any questions about my experience with Frigidaire.

So, a big thank you to Mom Central for letting me test drive the Frigidaire Dishwasher, we're very happy to be in the 21st century now!

I wrote this review while participating in a Test Drive Campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Frigidaire and received a Frigidaire Dishwasher to facilitate my review, however my opinions expressed here are my own.

Giveaway: What's New from Kraft

I have been lucky enough to work with the fine folks Kraft over the past few months, and they have some great new things out.

The new products we got to sample (and I'm giving away) include:

Ritz Crackerfuls - These are a great snack. A step above regular packaged cheese and crackers, they are a great big cracker sandwich with real, creamy cheese inside.

Kool Aid Fun Fizz - these were my kids' favorite. Each Kool-Aid single-serve drink drop dissolves easily in water, and it's fun to watch.

Kraft Homestyle Deluxe Macaroni and Cheese - OK, this stuff was good. While it may not be health food, it was awfully tasty and very creamy. A bit of a change from the blue box.

DiGiorno Pizza & Breadsticks: breadsticks, toppings an Marinara all in one box. These must have been good, as I baked them, left the room and they were gone.

Oscar Mayer Deli Fresh Shaved Meats - These are good, we've been buying them a lot, and it's every bit as good as most deli-sliced meat, and packaged conveniently.

Kraft 100 Calorie Packs Cheese Bites: Just what it says, convenient, portable take along packs of cheese.

The giveaway:

Prize: A What's New From Kraft Gift Basket

Thank you, Jenn of Mommy Needs Coffee

<img alt="Thank you mom" src="http://WWW.busymom.net/reviews/thankyoumom_logo.jpg" width="250" height="69" / align="left" hspace="10">I'm very excited to be a part of P&G's Thank you, Mom project, thanks to Cooper and Emily of The Motherhood Creative

Each day this week, I get to give a shout out to a mom blogger, how great is that?

I've thanked Mrs. Flinger, Tori, of BabyBloomr, Headless Mom, and Amie of Mamma Loves.

Today, I'm delighted to thank my good friend, Jenn of Mommy Needs Coffee.

We met online many years ago (2003, I believe), and right away we noticed we had a lot in common. We were both into blogging, and we enjoyed our little community of friends, and our kids are about the same age.

Over the years, we'd grow to have something else in common, we both lost our mothers to illness. While that's not a fun thing to have in common, it meant a lot to have someone who understood it.

Jenn is a writer, through and through and I often wonder how she puts up with my inane ramblings about nothing, but she does. She is passionate about what she does, no matter what it is. Even when I accuse her of leaping into something without looking, she leaps into it full force and expecting the best from it.

Even though she's been through some stressful times, she takes the time to check in with me when I ought to be the one checking on her.

We are roommates at BlogHer, and I love how she has never met a stranger. I tend to be on the shy side (shut up, am too) and I have met many wonderful people through her over the years.

So, I'm delighted to thank Jenn for being my friend all these years. Whoever it is that says blog friends aren't real friends is real wrong.

If you don't know Jenn, you should. Go on over to Mommy Needs Coffee right now and introduce yourself, tell her I sent you.

Be sure to check out TheMotherhood's Thank You Mom circle to meet all of the other mom bloggers involved.

Which mom bloggers would you like to thank? Don't be shy!

Be sure to check out the P&G Thank You Mom Reunions contest: Share your story of an awesome mom who might be far away here and you could win a video camera and $1,000 toward travel expenses so you can say "thank you" in person.

DISCLOSURE: I have been engaged by TheMotherhood.com and P&G to participate in the Thank You, Mom Campaign and I am being paid for my time and I am delighted to recognize a few of my friends this way.

Thank you, Amie of Mamma Loves

<img alt="Thank you mom" src="http://WWW.busymom.net/reviews/thankyoumom_logo.jpg" width="250" height="69" / align="left" hspace="10">I'm very excited to be a part of P&G's Thank you, Mom project, thanks to Cooper and Emily of The Motherhood Creative

Each day this week, I get to give a shout out to a mom blogger, how great is that?

I've thanked Mrs. Flinger, Tori, of BabyBloomr, and Headless Mom.

Today it's Amie of Mamma Loves!

I'd "known" Amie online for a few years, but we didn't actually meet until BlogHer 2008 in SanFrancisco, when I found out for sure she is just an all-around cool person.

I had just gotten my DSLR camera and was way confused about it, when I first noticed her on a trolley to somewhere using hers with ease. We chatted briefly about it, and I decided then that I'd do well to figure it out so I could say something intelligent.

She's since opened her own photography business, and I can now tell you my camera is shiny and that I need a fast IS telephoto lens. So, you can see one of us had some "stagnated" growth in that area.

She is the fiercely proud mother of 3 boys, the oldest of whom came to her in a bit of a non-standard sort of way, and she and her husband acted immediately and without hesitation when he came into their lives.

Amie is friendly and outgoing, and is a great host! I was in her town for my job a couple of years ago (Hey, I think I'm coming back this fall, btw), and she immediately volunteered to organize a night out with friends, and we had a fabulous time.

Not only is she a blogger, she is a political involvement consultant by trade, and I wish I had even a fraction of the passion she has about life and the world around her.

So, thank you Amie, for being a friend and for being an example to me to help me figure out the things I care about and have a passion for (excluding ending sentences in prepositions).

Thank you, Headless Mom!

I've thanked Mrs. Flinger, Tori, of BabyBloomr, and today it's Headless Mom!

Several years ago, I noticed one of my most faithful commenters was someone by the name of "Headless Mom".

Now, that name kind of stands out, and I got to know her a bit, and I found out we had some things in common (we even have almost the same last name, and it's an unusual one), and that she's a lot of fun!

We finally got to meet at the 2008 BlogHer in San Francisco when she burst on the scene with her headless Barbie doll business cards, and the rest is history. We had a great time in Chicago last year, and we have a fabulous red carpet picture of us that I'd love to show you, but I can't figure out where it went right now, so you'll have to use your imagination.

I enjoy her adventures with her Headless Family (I'm pretty sure it's a forgetful type of "headless" rather than traumatic headlessness. At least I think it is...) Her boys are roughly Busy D.'s age, and I enjoy the fact that her daughter is a few years older than Busy Girl, she tells me what's in store for me in the future!

Even though she has a head in real life, Headless Mom is just one of those people I feel like I've known all my life even though we live all the way across the country from each other.

So, Headless Mom? Thank you for finding me, and stepping up to initiate our friendship. I need to learn from you and take initiative in more things in my life.

The rest of you? Go see Headless Mom right now, tell her I sent you. Thanks!
